| International Tibet Support Network (ITSN) To the organisers of the 7th Joint European Commemoration of the Tibetan National Uprising Day: The Steering Committee of the International Tibet Support Network is writing to express its support for the joint European commemoration of the 10th March Tibetan National Uprising Day in Berlin this year. The SC members are inspired to see Tibet organisations in Germany coming together to jointly organise the Commemorations and working through their joint endeavors, and with Tibet organisations across Europe, to achieve a greater impact for the Tibetan cause. We hope that the Uprising Day commemorations are well supported by Germans, Tibetans and others across Europe. We are confident that the day's twin messages of remembrance for the Tibetans that have lost their lives under Chinese occupation and of the continued struggle against China's occupation will resonate across Germany, Europe and the wider world. ITSN Steering Committee * The International Tibet Support Network (ITSN) is a network of 140 Tibet related non-governmental organisations from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australasia and Europe. ITSN was established in May 2002 to maximise the effectiveness of international Tibet support movement which is dedicated to ending human rights violations in Tibet and to actively support the Tibetan people's right under international law to determine their future political, economic, social, religious and cultural rights. The purpose of the ITSN is to build on the movement's growth and achievements and to maximise the Tibet movements' effectiveness internationally. |

Die Wahrung der Menschenrechte ist Grundlage des verständigen Zusammenlebens der Völker dieser Erde. |

Heute jährt sich zum 46. Mal der Tag des tibetischen Volksaufstandes. Alljährlich wird am 10. März der tibetischen Opfer der chinesischen Unterdrückung gedacht. Dieser Tag ist jedoch nicht nur ein Tag des Vergangenen. Dieser Tag ist auch ein Tag der traurigen Gegenwart und der ungewissen Zukunft. Noch 55 Jahre nach der chinesischen Machtübernahme in Tibet werden dem tibetischen Volk die fundamentalsten Menschenrechte in ihrem eigenen Land verweigert. So werden z.B. das Zeigen der tibetischen Nationalflagge oder der Besitz eines Fotos des Dalai Lama immer noch hart bestraft. Es ist Deutschlands Verantwortung und Pflicht, sich klar gegen die fortlaufenden Menschenrechtsverletzungen und sozialen Ungerechtigkeiten in Tibet zu positionieren und von der chinesischen Führung eine deutliche Verbesserung einzufordern. Solange sich die Menschenrechtslage in Tibet nicht deutlich verbessert, ist jede Diskussion um die Aufhebung des EU-Waffenembargo verfehlt. Als Geste des „guten Willen“ möchte Gerhard Schröder das EU-Waffenembargo gegen China aufheben - das müssen wir verhindern. Was für ein Signal gedenkt die Bundesregierung mit einem solchen Schritt an die unterdrückten, verfolgten, gefolterten und entrechteten Menschen in Tibet und China zu senden? Das tibetische Volk braucht die Unterstützung der Weltgemeinschaft, um seinen rechtmäßigen Anspruch auf Menschenrechte, Religionsfreiheit und Selbstbestimmung einzuklagen. Deutschland darf sich nicht verstecken, sondern muß Flagge zeigen! |
